Michalis Adamis
He was born in Piraeus in 1929. He studied European music, Byzantine music, and theology in Athens, and had
postgraduate studies in composition, electronic music, and Byzantine music paleography at the Boston University. He has composed works for orchestra, small instrumental
ensembles, solo instruments, for voice, choir, multimedia, electronic music, pure or combined with instruments or voices, music for the church, for the theatre and
television. He has received honour commissions by important institutions and many of his works have been performed in major international festivals. He has been president
or member of many musical unions and institutions, a member of the Music Committee of the Greek Ministry of Culture (1981-1984) and the Directing Committee of the Ionian
University (1990-1994), where he also taught. He is honorary doctor of the University
of Athens.
