Minas I. Alexiadis
He studied piano with Marika Papaioannou and George Platon, jazz piano with Béla Lakatos, theory and composition with Yannis
Ioannidis in Athens, then with Günther Becker (Diploma of
composition, Robert Schumann Musikhochschule, Düsseldorf, 1986). He is also a diplomate of Law (Law
Faculty, University of Athens, 1985) and a doctor of musicology (Music Department,
Athens University, 2000). Since 1975 he has been involved with jazz, free improvisation and live electronic music, by
teaching and performing in various concerts and festivals with outstanding Greek and international jazz soloists; since 1984 he has mainly turned to composition. Many of his
compositions have been awarded prizes, recorded, released in LPs and CDs in Greece, Italy and Japan, performed and broadcast worldwide. Since 1987 he has been the artistic director of several conservatories in Greece,
1989-2002 a member of the administrative council of the Greek
Composers’ Union, and since 2002 a member of the administrative council of the Greek National
Opera. He has participated in several
Greek and international musicological congresses. Writings of his have been published, among others, in the magazines Musicology (Musicología), Echos,
Jazz, Highlights, Musikotropies, etc. His analytical study on Stravinsky’s Histoire du Soldat has recently been published by
Ph. Nakas
Editions, Athens. He has taught at the Music Department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and at the
Department
of Music Science & Art of the Macedonia University in Thessaloniki. He has recently been
elected as an assistant professor of Music Theatre and Opera at the Department of Theatre
Studies, University of Athens.
