Pyrros Bamichas
Assistant
Professor
of
Music History, University of Athens. He
was born in Athens in 1969. He holds a Ph.D. in Historical Musicology awarded
by the University of Athens (2002). After three years of postgraduate studies
at the University of Birmingham (U.K.),
he was awarded the degrees of M.A
in Musicology (1996) and M.Phil
in Baroque Paleography and Editing (1998). He is also a graduate of the
University of Piraeus (Department of Economics), graduate of the ‘National
Conservatory’ (Diploma in Theory of Music) and one of the founding members
of the Greek Musicological Society. He is currently working on two
international projects concerning the production of critical editions of high
Renaissance (CMME) and early Baroque music (ASCIMA), in cooperation with the
University of Utrecht, and the Universities of Birmingham, Heidelberg and Rome,
respectively. His Critical Edition of Psalmi ad vesperas (1694) of
Giovanni Paolo Colonna was performed and recorded (CD, http://www.msrcd.com/catalog/cd/MS1437)
for the first time by Houston Chamber Choir (2012). Additionally, he is
responsible for the Critical Editions of the newly founded project of Study
and Publication of Greek Music run by the Sector of Historical and Systematic
Musicology. As a Lecturer, he also taught at the Music Department of the
School of Fine Arts at the Aristotle University of Salonica (2004-2005).
