Gerasimoula (Mema) Papandrikou

She was born in Piraeus. She studied musicology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and graduated in 1991. In addition, she studied piano and harmony at the Piraeus Conservatory of the Piraikos Syndesmos and harpsichord at the “Athenaeum Conservatory” in Athens. She received a grant from the State Scholarship Foundation of Greece for a doctoral program at the Department of Music at the Leopold Franzens University of Innsbruck, Austria, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Tilman Seebass. In 2010 she received her PhD degree. Her doctoral thesis was titled: The Greek Santouri – Comparative study of the stylistic features of four santouri players.

In 1992-1993 she took part in a research program for the traditional music and instruments of Macedonia of the Music Department of Thessaloniki. Since 1992 she has worked as a music teacher and since 1993 she has been teaching piano at the State Music School in Thessaloniki. In addition, she has been directing the “Renaissance & Baroque Music Ensemble” of her school for the last seven years. The scientific areas of her interest are Greek folk music and Baroque music.
