Markos Tsetsos

Born in 1968. Associate Professor in Music Aesthetics at the University of Athens, Department of Music Studies. PhD in Musicology (University of Athens, 1999), Diploma in orchestra conducting (St. Petersburg State Conservatoire, 1993), Diploma in classical guitar (Ethniko Odeio, 1986). Member of the editorial board of Musicologia and of the advisory board of Axiologika, founding member of the Hellenic Musicological Society, member of the International Helmuth Plessner Gesellschaft, contributor to the music encyclopedia Die Music in Geschichte und Gegenwart. His publications include six books (Modern Greek Music. Critical Essays on Ideology and Institutions, Athens 2013; Music in Modern Philosophy. From Kant to Adorno, Athens 2012; Elements and Environments of Music. A Philosophical Introduction to Musicology, Athens 2012; Nationalism and Populism in Greek Music. Political Aspects of a Cultural Divergence, Athens 2011; Basic Methods of Orchestration, Athens 2006; Will and Sound. The Metaphysics of Music in Schopenhauer’s Philosophy, Athens 2004), annotated translations in Greek of Hegel’s Aesthetics of Music (2002) and Hanslick’s On the Musically Beautiful (2003), numerous journal articles, book chapters, conference papers, introductions and addenda, newspaper articles etc (see http://publicationslist.org/markos.tsetsos). He has conducted many of Athens’s symphony and chamber orchestras and has released four discs with guitar music.
