The Value of Comparative Musicology

This paper attempts to reveal the value of comparative musicology, within the frame of today’s methodological inquisitive of the science of musicology. Following a concise account of the evolution of musicology’s various branches, the speaker points at both the positive and the negative aspects of various methodological approaches ensuing in contemporary musicological research. Conclusively, the value of the comparative method is singled out as suitable to approach the scientific-objective truth, through the comparative observation and the use of methods from every specialized branch of musicology.
