Claus-Steffen Mahnkopf

He was born in 1962 in Mannheim. He studied musicology, philosophy, sociology and composition by Brian Ferneyhough, Klaus Huber and Jürgen Habermas; he completed his Ph.D. dissertation in 1993. He is a composer and a writer of books and articles on music. He is also co-founder of the periodical Musik & Ästhetik. Among his numerous publications, one could name: Kritik der neuen Musik. Entwurf einer Musik des 21. Jahrhunderts (1998). Among his compositions: Rhizom, Medusa, Medeia-Zyklus, Kammerzyklus, Angelus Novus, Hommage à György Kurtág, Hommage à Thomas Pynchon.
