Makis Solomos

He was born in 1962 in Athens. He is living in Paris since 1980 and is currently maître de conférences at University Montpellier 3 and membre junior of the Institut Universitaire de France. His research domains are: 1) Xenakis. He has written a Ph.D., about 30 articles and a book (Iannis Xenakis, PO Editions, Mercuès 1996) on his music and has organized the first international symposium on him (proceedings: Présences de / Presences of Iannis Xenakis, CDMC, Paris 2001). He is preparing a new book, Entendre, tendre vers la musique de Xenakis. In collaboration with Sharon Kanach and Benoît Gibson, he is working on a critical edition of Xenakis’ writings. 2) Modern music, from Debussy to John Zorn, from Adorno to questions on technologies and on globalization in music. He has published about 40 articles, edited or co-edited the books L’espace: musique-philosophie (L’Harmattan, Paris 1998), Musiques, arts, technologies; pour une approche critique (L’Harmattan, Paris 2003) and La métaphore lumineuse: Xenakis-Grisey (forthcoming), and co-written the book Formel-Informel: musique-philosophie (L’Harmattan, Paris 2003). He is preparing a book on the emergence of sound, De la musique au son. Notes pour une histoire multiple de la musique du 20e siècle, and is editing a book on the music of Horacio Vaggione.
