Nikos Tsouchlos

He was born in Athens in 1961. He studied music at the National Conservatory (piano with Chryse Partheniade-Florou; theory and composition with Jiannis A. Papaioannou) and law at the University of Athens. After his graduation he was wholly committed to conducting, thanks to a scholarship of the Onassis Foundation, studying with Alexandros Myrat in France and, for three years, with Sergiu Celibidache.
His elevated interest in contemporary music led him to the foundation, together with the stage director Giorgos Michaelides, of the Opera Workshop in 1989, that offered him the opportunity to conduct several musical stage works. Tsouchlos has conducted a considerable number of first performances of Greek works (by such composers as Antoniou, Adamis, Vrondos, Risiotes, Mikroutsikos, Zannas, Koumendakes, Metalinos etc.) He appeared as a guest conductor with various orchestras and artistic institutions, in Greece as well as abroad (France, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Italy, Mexico). He is Artistic Director of the Athens Concert Hall since 1991.
