This is a panegyric, more than a scholarly article, commemorating the hundredth anniversary of the birth of the American composer Wallingford Riegger. It comprises a biographical note, dwells on Riegger’s musical beliefs, traces his aesthetic predilections (e.g. his individual use of the twelve-note row), and touches briefly on three works: Study in Sonority, Dichotomy, and Symphony No 3.
