Nikolaos MamalisTechnics of Modelization of the Instrumental Sound: Spectral Music
In this article we try to precise different techniques and aspects of the works of the so-called
“spectral music”. Using technique of sound synthesis, combining recent results of Acoustics and Music Perception, French composers
in ’70s and ’80s gave another perspective to a vertical way of construction and orchestration of the proposing spectral models of instruments. This way of manipulation of the sound gave a different aesthetic and a special way of proceeding. Superposing harmonic and non-harmonic frequencies, they established a way of time-evolution, using traditional musical writing, provoking unexpected and progressive propositions in composition.
