Ion ZottosIn Memoriam John G. Papaioannou (23 January 1915 – 3 February 2000). Chronicle – Vision – Problems
John G. Papaioannou was a dominating personality in the cultural world of Greece; in fact, his reputation as architect, city-planner, musicologist and pianist were international, rather, than strictly national. He was mainly responsible for the introduction of contemporary music into Greece and was in charge of many of its activities, such as organizing numerous concerts over the years and giving illustrated lectures and broadcasts with works ranging from Bach and Schubert to Skalkottas and Xenakis. His death means the end of an era in Greece.
