The Digital Composition of Sound with Physical Models: A Technique of Simulation

This article is an introduction to the digital composition of sound with physical models. Its goal is the construction of digital musical instruments that are either reproductions or extensions of the acoustical ones. There are three parts: (a) an analysis of the basic conceptual tools of simulation as a contemporary methodology and experimentation of the surrounding world, (b) a registration of the prevailing classifications of some developing techniques with the distinction of two main methodological approaches, and (c) the juxtaposition of two operating systems that are connected to these methodological approaches.
