He studied piano with Marika Papaioannou and George Platon, jazz piano and theory with Béla Lakatos, theory and composition with Yannis Ioannidis, then with Günther Becker. Diploma of composition, Robert Schumann Musikhochschule of Düsseldorf (1986). Since 1975 he has been involved with jazz music and performing in various concerts with outstanding Greek and international jazz soloists; since 1984 he has mainly turned to composition. Many of his works have been awarded prizes, recorded and released in Greece, Italy, and Japan, performed and broadcast worldwide. Since 1987 he has been the artistic director of several conservatories in Greece. Since 1989 he has been a member of the presidency of the Greek Composers Union. Writings of his appeared in the magazines Jazz, Jazz & Jazz, Echos, Musicology (Musicología) etc. He graduated from Law School, University of Athens, and he is a doctor of the Music Department of the Athens University. He teaches at the Music Department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Research fields: jazz musicology, 20th century music, relations between jazz and art music.
