Panos Vlagopoulos

He was born in 1961 in Xylokastron (Greece). He studied classical guitar, piano and music theory at the Athens Conservatorium and musicology in Basel (Switzerland) and Cambridge (England). He completed his Ph.D. dissertation (Indexicality and Historical Object: Towards a Critique of Historiographical Discourse on the Basis of Remarks on the Music Historiography of Ars nova) at the Ionian University under the supervision of Irmgard Lerch. He has published a number of articles in Greek musicological journals and newspapers and has read papers in musicological conferences in Athens, Oxford (Renaissance and Medieval Music – 2000) and Vienna (Schönberg und die griechische Komponisten – 2001). He is the editor-in-chief of the musicological journal Moussikos Loghos (Papagrigoriou-Nakas Editions, Athens). He has been a faculty member of the State School of Dance and since 2002 is lecturing at the Ionian University (Corfu). He is responsible for Acquisitions and Educational Projects of the Music Library “Lilian Voudouri” in Athens. He is interested in philosophical hermeneutics and the philosophy of language, and their application towards a critique of music historiography.
