The “Leitmotiv” Technique in M. Kalomiris’ Opera Mother’s Ring

This article examines the way in which M. Kalomiris uses the leitmotiv technique in his opera Mother’s Ring. Initially, the role, the characteristics and the basic functions of the leitmotivs are mentioned, as they appear in Wagner’s operas, as well as the characteristic features of this technique. Then follows the table of the leitmotivs in the opera Mother’s Ring, as was given by the composer himself, and relative references of musicologists to them. Finally, comments are made on the leitmotivs of this opera and emphasis is placed on the way the above mentioned elements are applied to them.
