The Artist, the Scientist, and their Place in Higher Musical Education

Considering the recent developments in the area of higher musical education in Greece, we attempt to re-examine the notions of artist/musician and scientist/musicologist referring to history, theory, and international practice. The clear distinction between these two notions provides the clear determination of the activities of the musician and the musicologist within the Greek higher musical education. We also examine the notion of “musical academy” and make a comment on the recent European changes related to their conversion to universities.
