Music History for children
This paper outlines the theoretical analysis of the various means by which children and young people come into contact with the history of music: from schoolbooks and the various online teaching materials to the illustrated books for children and the various multimedia. Central questions are: the simplification degree of the material, the ways to an “attractive presentation” and the “modernization” of the material, the teaching goals as well as the scientificity of the material.
The presentation of music history subjects is a “new, growing market”. That is an important issue for the Greek area, where original works by Greek writers and works about Greek topics are underrepresented. This is a matter that often remains “forgotten” by the musicologists, although it is one of their important responsibility areas, which should not be left unexploited.
