Language and Music: An interdisciplinary overview of a multi-faceted relationship

During the last 30 years, the exploration of the relationship between music and language is taking place within a wide interdisciplinary field that comprises the scientific areas of linguistics, psychology, music theory, musicology and neurophysiology. Main features of this evolving research are the overlapping of fields and the fruitful collaboration between scientists and artists. The present paper attempts an overview of this interdisciplinary relationship with references to the relevant bibliography, with an emphasis on recently published research by Ray Jackendoff, Fred Lerdahl, Stefan Koelsch, Aniruddh Patel, et al.
