Alexandros Baltzis

Born in 1964 in Thessaloniki. In 1987 he graduated from the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Philosophy at Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski (Bulgaria). He studied several years classical guitar. His interest in music resulted in a doctoral thesis on The Social and Historic Nature of Music Consciousness as a Form of Artistic Consciousness (1992).
Since 1997 he developed research and teaching collaboration with the Departments of Primary Education and Economics at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Since 2001 he teaches at the Department of Languages, Literature and Culture of the Black Sea Countries (Demokritos University of Thrace). Several of his articles appeared in Greek and Bulgarian journals in the fields of sociology and philosophy of music, philosophy and methodology of social sciences, sociology of culture and art, sociology of education, and sociology of social groups and economics. He has also translated texts in the field of humanities. He has presented papers in international and local conferences. He is a member of the Advisory and of the Editorial Boards of Musicology and responsible for the web site of the journal. He is a member of the International Musicological Society, the International Association for Semiotic Studies and the Greek Association for Clinical Social Research (related to Research Committee 46 of the International Sociological Association).
