We are pleased to announce our latest project, a Special Bibliography Data Base of Byzantine Music Manuscripts, a modern bibliographic tool, which focuses on locating photographs of music codices. This data base, although similar in a way to I.M.A.G.E.S. (Sever J. Voicu – Serenella D’ Alisera, I.M.A.G.E.S., Index in manuscriptorum graecorum edita specimina, Roma 1981), exhibits at the same time several differences from it:
1. It deals with titles related strictly to Byzantine music.
2. The research is not restricted to libraries of cities, but includes the overall international outcome of scholarly works.
3. The data base will appear in both printed and electronic form, in order for the user to be able to search for many different bibliographic entries, while at the same time an internet site will be created, which will be continuously fed in.
The Special Bibliography Data Base comprises two main parts. In Part One, is included a bibliography containing the total production of scholarly works pertaining to Byzantine music until the year 2011. Every kind of publication is included, such as monographs, articles in scholarly journals, papers read during conferences, PhD theses etc. In Part Two, researchers are able to locate those published photographs of Byzantine music manuscripts, which are included in the bibliography of Part One. The published folios of manuscripts have been classified according to libraries in every city. There follows the name of the author, and the publication date of his / her work. In this way, researchers interested in acquainting themselves with a particular manuscript, will be referred to the publication which offers a photograph of the manuscript.
